Myotonic Dystrophy Foundation (MDF) developed this guide to help you understand the special education law that supports all children with disabilities in the United States, including infants and young children with congenital myotonic dystrophy, (CDM), and childhood onset myotonic dystrophy type 1, (DM1).

The law, called IDEA (Individuals with Disabilities Education Act), was created to support the early development and education of children with disabilities in the home, in preschool and in public K-12 schools.
