Join MDF for a virtual “happy hour” event on Saturday, July 24, 4 - 6 PM Pactific / 7 - 9 PM Eastern. Those living with DM can sometimes feel isolated and overwhelmed. Family Day, which started in the United Kingdom, is an international day for the community to come together in support of one another and to share stories and experiences. Research Pilot Grant Feature: Paloma Gonzalez Perez, MD, PhD

2024 Pilot Grant Recipient, Paloma Gonzalez Perez, MD, PhD, is leading an exciting Pilot Grant-funded study titled "Investigating Benefits of a Physical Therapist-Guided Exercise Program in Myotonic Dystrophy Type 2 (DM2)". This innovative project tests the effectiveness of the PRIME program, a patient-friendly regimen designed to strengthen the core and proximal limb muscles often affected in DM2.

Research Pilot Grant Feature: Joel R. Chamberlain, PhD

As an MDF Pilot Grant recipient, Dr. Joel R. Chamberlain, PhD, is leading an exciting project titled “Efficacy Testing of Cell-Derived Nanovesicle Delivery of Small Interfering RNAs for Treatment of DM1.” Her team is pioneering a novel approach to treat DM1 by utilizing natural cell-derived vesicles to deliver therapies aimed at eliminating toxic RNA structures in the muscles and tissues of DM1 patients.

MDF Launches 2025 Pilot Grant Applications

We have launched a new round of our Pilot Grants Program! This program offers $50,000 in one-year support for researchers focused on myotonic dystrophy (DM). The goal is to provide DM researchers with the opportunity to explore innovative ideas and conduct preliminary investigations. This funding can help generate essential data and preliminary findings, laying the groundwork for larger-scale research projects.
