It is with a heavy heart that we share the news of the passing of our dedicated support group co-facilitator, Glenda Winson. Glenda served as a co-facilitator since 2022 and was not only a cherished member of our NYC Support Group, but a beacon of compassion, strength, and understanding for so many within the myotonic dystrophy community.
Susan “Glenda” Winson, who has always gone by her nickname, was a retired cardiology nurse that had recently discovered MDF and its resources. She first received her DM2 diagnosis 26 years ago when she saw a neurologist about why she kept falling while running. Although her condition had progressed, she has always stayed active with a daily weight lifting practice, and at 74 years old she was able to stay mobile and get around NYC using a lift chair and walker. While Glenda is originally from England, she has lived in NYC for the past 30 years and was always excited to connect with and support her local DM community.
For those of you who had the honor of knowing her, you will remember Glenda’s unwavering commitment to offering support, insight, and empathy to caregivers and individuals affected by myotonic dystrophy. Her efforts in co-facilitating our meetings made a profound impact on countless lives.
We know that this loss may bring up a range of emotions, and we want to remind everyone that MDF is here for you. Please do not hesitate to reach out if you need someone to talk to or share your memories of Glenda.
