Our staff would like to recognize Serena Master, MPH, for her outstanding work as MDF's CARE intern! Serena started as our intern in May of 2019 through her Masters in Public Health (MPH) internship. At the time, she was a student at the University of California Berkeley School of Public Health and chose to do her full-time summer internship with MDF. We were very excited to welcome Serena as our first CARE intern and promptly tasked her with a major project, writing the Employment Access Toolkit.
Creating Resources for the DM Community
During summer 2019, Serena wrote the majority of the Employment Toolkit and the Health Insurance Guide, and helped with various other CARE projects, research, and initiatives. After her internship ended, Serena continued working for the Foundation one day per week starting in September 2019 to help with other projects throughout the organization. Some of you may remember Serena as a staff member at our 2019 Annual Conference in Philadelphia, PA. Aside from the major toolkits, she also helped create many of the financial resource guides that you can see on the website today!
We Wish You the Best!
Just last month, Serena graduated with her Masters in Public Health (MPH) from UC Berkeley and started a new position at Acumen as a Data and Policy Analyst Writer. Acumen is a non-profit impact investment fund with over 15 years’ experience in investing in social enterprises that serve low-income communities in developing countries. We are very proud of Serena and wish her well in this new position. We are grateful for the time and effort that she spent in creating much needed resources for the myotonic dystrophy community!
