Laura Girard-Côté is a physiotherapist graduated in 2021, practicing in Saguenay, Quebec, Canada. She is teaching in Kinesiology at the Université du Québec à Chicoutimi and pursuing a PhD on the effects of the menstrual cycle on physical capacities. She previously completed a scientific master’s degree, in 2024, focused on a 12-week strength training program for women with type 1 myotonic dystrophy (DM1) and remains actively involved in DM1 research, including clinical trial development and promoting Physical Activity Month for myotonic dystrophy.

Samar Muslemani is an occupational therapist who graduated in 2018 and practices in Saguenay, Québec, Canada. Since then, she has worked directly with individuals and families affected by myotonic dystrophy in home-based care settings with Santé Québec – Saguenay–Lac-Saint-Jean. She is first author of a practice guideline supporting occupational therapists in addressing sexuality with their clients, and regularly gives conferences highlighting the importance of this often-overlooked topic in healthcare services. Samar is currently pursuing a PhD on the impact of cognitive impairments on daily living in DM1. Through her research, she aims not only to generate new evidence on these important yet underrecognized aspects of the disease, but also to help patients, families, and healthcare providers better recognize and address the full scope of challenges faced by individuals with myotonic dystrophy, ensuring that research translates into practical, meaningful support.Best,
