Nate Uhl is an attorney from Greenwood, Indiana, a suburb of Indianapolis. His son, wife, and father-in-law live with myotonic dystrophy type 1 (DM1). For the last decade, Nate has maintained the social media accounts @DM1Research and @dm1myotonic.bsky.social, where he shares the latest developments in the search for effective treatments for DM1. In his free time, Nate enjoys coaching Special Olympics softball and basketball.
Nate is interested in telling his story because he wants people to know how much progress has been made in the search for treatments for DM1 and other rare diseases. He believes that with continued investment in rare disease research, many lives will be changed for the better in the next decade. He also wants to share how DM1 impacts people in daily life and, based on his family’s experience, how it can affect people at different stages of their lives.
