Dr. Marisa Spain is a disability justice advocate living with FSHD, a form of muscular dystrophy. She works as an employment advocate at her state’s protection and advocacy organization for people with disabilities. Marisa spends most of her work days advising callers regarding disability-related workplace discrimination issues and advocating for individuals struggling to receive services from the state vocational rehabilitation system.
This session will cover practical considerations for navigating the workplace, including how and when to request reasonable accommodations and what to know about disclosure during the hiring process. Marisa will share concrete self-advocacy strategies and outline steps you can take if you believe you have experienced disability-related discrimination, empowering attendees with knowledge, tools, and resources to support informed decision-making at work.
