Mike Zemechman is originally from Southern California and has lived in Las Vegas, Nevada, for more than 25 years. Mike lives with myotonic dystrophy type 2 (DM2), as do his sister and other family members. Due to the effects of DM2, Mike no longer works, but he enjoys staying engaged and keeping his mind sharp through a variety of hobbies. He enjoys reading, watching sports, participating in fantasy sports leagues, playing cards, and fishing. Mike also used to spend a lot of time playing golf before DM2 made it difficult.
Mike’s family history has shaped his understanding of DM2 and his commitment to raising awareness for a condition that is often under-recognized, under-appreciated, and significantly underfunded. As DM2 has affected his professional career and limited some of his hobbies, he has chosen to redirect his efforts toward supporting the DM community.
Mike is dedicated to sharing his experiences and supporting research and initiatives that advance understanding and help move us closer to a cure.
